The children in our EYFS unit are really important part of our school family but do not follow the same curriculum as children in Years 1-6.
They learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoor and outside.
Autumn Term Highlights
We have learned a lot about ourselves and our community. We made clay faces and painted our self-portraits. We enjoyed drawing around our friends and labelling the parts of the body.
We had lots of fun cooking Jamaican dumplings, banana fritter, soup and tropical fruit salad for our Black History Topic. We also listened to some Jamaican music.
We have enjoyed going on Autumn walks, rustling through the leaves and observing all the changes in the Autumn season. For our light and dark topic the children enjoyed building and playing in the dark den. They also made shadow puppets using cards and the interactive whiteboard and used their body shapes to create body shadows using a white sheet and a projecting light.
In SEL we have discussed different feelings such as happy, sad, angry, worried and excited. Children have enjoyed listening to stories, circle times, making worry wands, feelings traffic lights and decorating the rainbow fish.
We were excited to receive a letter from Santa. The children replied by writing their own letters to Santa telling him what they would like for Christmas. The children were fantastic in the Nativity when they sang ‘Away in a Manger’ and we had lots of fun singing, dancing and playing games at our Christmas party.
